RIDDELL wrapped up the minor premiership with a 48-point win over
Sunbury and booked itself a qualifying final clash against Diggers Rest
at Ian Cowie Reserve this Saturday.
The top-of-the-table clash will go a long way to deciding this
year’s Riddell District Football League premier.

The teams met twice
this year, sharing the honours.
The Bombers came away with a five-point
win in round one but the Burras were sensational, handing the
then-unbeaten Riddell a 61-point walloping in round 14.
Riddell was wasteful in the opening term against Sunbury on Saturday, kicking 3.5 to 2.0.
When they last met, Riddell set up a 56-point win with an
eight-goal second term. This time only two points were kicked in the
second quarter – both by Sunbury.
But 10 second-half goals showed Riddell was a class above. The
Bombers had nine goalkickers and their defence was at its most
impressive, with Sunbury held to its lowest score of the season.
The Kangaroos will host Rupertswood in an elimination final, also
this Saturday, following the Sharks’ 21-point loss to Diggers Rest.
Rupertswood battled fiercely against the Burras, who were able to respond whenever threatened.
Shaun Sims was outstanding for Diggers Rest, booting five. He went
a long way to proving that Diggers Rest can win without a massive haul
from focal point Brent Tuckey.
Luke Spinner kicked four for Rupo, and Leigh Brennan three, while
Todd Podolczak continued an outstanding year with another ripping
performance.
Macedon and Romsey are the other finalists. They will battle it
out in an elimination final at JJ Clancy Reserve in Kilmore on Saturday.
The dead-rubber battle for ninth between Broadford and Rockbank
went to the Kangaroos, who turned around a first-half deficit to record
their seventh win of the year.
In A-grade netball, Sunbury Kangaroos will have first crack at
Melton Centrals in the final series after a 21-goal win against Riddell
on Saturday.
The Roos claimed second place at the Bombers’ expense with a 48-27
win and will play Centrals in the qualifying final at Rockbank this
Saturday.
The Blues had a bye at the weekend. Rockbank ended its season on a winning note, the two-and-12 Rams edging Broadford 30-28.
Romsey beat Woodend Hesket 84-34, Rupertswood downed Diggers Rest 65-25 and Macedon beat Wallan 60-34.
