Countdown to end game

With one round remaining in the Riddell District Football League, Tara Murray looks at how the line-up may pan out.

Riddell

Current position: 1st

Points/percentage: 60/157.81

Highest position possible: 1st

Opponent this week: Sunbury Kangaroos

A win this week will put Riddell on top of the ladder and clinch the minor premiership. Lose, and if Diggers Rest, Rupertswood and Romsey all win, the Bombers will slip to fourth.

Diggers Rest

Current position: 2nd

Points/percentage: 56/207.89

Highest position possible: 1st

Opponent this week: Macedon

One of three sides on the same points separated only by percentages, the Burras are the only one of these sides to face a team in the top six. By far, the Burras have the best percentage of any side in the competition.

Rupertswood

Current position: 3rd

Points/percentage: 56/188.59

Highest position possible: 1st

Opponent this week: Wallan

The Sharks’ win over Romsey keeps it in the mix for top spot, not only levelling them on points with the Redbacks but also boosting the side’s percentage. On paper, the Sharks have the easiest match of all four sides fighting for top.

Romsey

Current position: 4th

Points/Percentage: 56/161.46

Highest position possible: 1st

Opponent this week: Woodend-Hesket

For a second consecutive week the team which was on top of the ladder lost and fell from top spot to fourth on the ladder. The Redbacks play Woodend-Hesket in a match they should win.

Macedon

Current position: 5th

Points/percentage: 48/157.32

Highest position possible: 5th

Opponent this week: Diggers Rest

Win, lose or draw, Macedon is destined to finish fifth on the ladder. The Cats are two games behind Rupertswood, Romsey and Diggers Rest, while one game and a massive percentage ahead of Broadford. A win over the Burras will boost the Cats’ confidence.

Broadford

Current position: 6th

Points/percentage: 44/134.59

Highest position possible: 6th

Opponent this week: Rockbank

Having finally broken into the top six, Broadford’s finals hopes are in its own hands. A win will mean the Sunbury Kangaroos will need a massive victory to overtake them on percentage. Lose, and Broadford will be hoping the Kangaroos do the same.

Sunbury Kangaroos

Current position: 7th

Points/percentage: 44/131.70

Highest position possible: 6th

Opponent this week: Riddell

The Kangaroos need a miracle to make finals. A win against top-of-table Riddell is a must, and a Broadford loss would be the perfect outcome for the Kangaroos. If both teams win, the Kangaroos need a huge victory to pip Broadford on percentage, or they’re out.
