Melton councillor Broden Borg announced his shock resignation at Tuesday night’s council meeting – less than a year into his term.
“It has been a privilege to serve the people of Melton,” Cr Borg said during his public address.
“I’ve been here since I was 20, so I feel like I have grown up on this council. It’s going to be difficult to leave.”
The Coburn ward councillor said he was not going to make a farewell speech at his final council meeting in July, before his resignation takes effect on August 20.
Cr Borg apoligised to the community for not seeing out his four-year term, after he was elected with the highest amount of votes.
He submitted his resignation to council chief executive Kelvin Tori last week, after first alerting mayor Bob Turner of his decision.
The primary school teacher has been a councillor for six years, and served a period as deputy mayor.
Melton council has not yet announced his replacement.
