Bacchus Marsh BMX club seeks wheel deal

BMX enthusiasts in Bacchus Marsh want popular jumps in Darley Park cleaned up for riders while they wait for a full-length track in Moorabool.

Bacchus Marsh BMX Club president Les Stewart said there were many riders in the area, including eight state title holders, but they had no track to ride on.

Most head to tracks in Ballarat, Sunbury, Geelong and Hoppers Crossing to train. The club is discussing two potential sites with Moorabool council.

Plans for a Darley community hub identify space for a future BMX track.

Stewart said he understood a full track was a long-term project but he said, in the meantime, informal jumps at Darley Park could easily be converted into a small-scale circuit.

“Kids keep taking to them with shovels to try and turn them into something that they are not.” Stewart said he was prepared to redesign the jumps, and, if a few truckloads of fill and sand were donated, it could be up and running soon. “We could have an excellent facility to train on until our track is constructed.”
