Ballarat NL: Planets align as Melton wins four nail-biters

Luck was on Melton’s side as it came out victor in four tight matches against Melton South in the Ballarat Football Netball League.

It was a whitewash for the Bloods, who won the A-grade, A-grade reserve, B-grade and under-19s matches.

It was a high-scoring affair in A-grade with the Bloods winning 66-63.

The Panthers started the better of the two teams and took and early six-goal lead.

In the second term, the Bloods hit back scoring 23 goals for the quarter to hit the front by three points.

The second half was an even contest with both teams trading goals.

Melissa McCauley was best on court, scoring an incredible 60 goals.

Andrea Tai scored 33 goals for the Panthers and Maria Tahi hit up 30.

In A-grade reserve, the Bloods led at every change to scrape over the line by one goal, 46-45. Victoria Freeman scored 29 goals for the Bloods; Faith Mataseni top scored with 26 goals for the Panthers.

In B-grade, the Bloods had an easy 10-goal win, keeping the Panthers scoreless in the final term.

Hannah Aston scored 16 goals and Amanda Borley chipped in with 15 goals for the Bloods, while Ann Ward scored 13 goals for Panthers.

In the under-19s, the Bloods won 35-34.

Madelyn Gray scored 24 goals for the Bloods and Faith Mateseni scored 18 goals for the Panthers.

Next week, the Panthers face Lake Wendouree and the Bloods take on Darley.
