Devils own job holds its grip on third rung

Darley continued its charge towards the Ballarat Football League finals with a 75-point win against Sebastopol on Saturday.

The Devils completely controlled the contest from the outset, racing to a 37-point lead at half-time.

With the likes of Dane Grenfell, Steven Kennedy and Rhys Ellis firing on the Darley forward line, the dominance continued after the main break.

The Devils slammed on nine second-half goals to secure its 19.10 (124) to 8.1 (49) win.

Grenfell finished the match with six goals, and was clearly the leading forward on the ground. He looks to be hitting top form at the right time of year, booting 13 goals in the past two weeks.

Anthony Chiu and Shane O’Bree were also impressive for the Devils, while Rowan Marshall was named best on ground for Sebastopol.

The win maintains Darley’s hold over third place on the BFL ladder.

The side is one game ahead of the fourth-placed Lake Wendouree, and will take on the fifth-placed East Point this week.

In other results from the weekend, Melton’s poor 2015 season continued with a 38-point defeat at the hands of Ballarat.

The Bloods started the match well and held a 10-point lead at quarter-time, which extended to 17 points at half-time.

However, a late fade-out cost Melton dearly.

Ballarat kicked 12 second-half goals in a dynamic, attacking performance. The Swans also took control at the defensive end, allowing the Bloods to score just two majors.

The 17.14 (116) to 11.12 (78) loss is Melton’s 10th of the year, putting the Bloods in eighth spot on the BFL ladder.

It takes on the second-placed North Ballarat City this weekend.
