Moorabool relay team rallies round for Relay for Life

The Foodworks Relay for Life team is hitting the pavements in preparation for the Moorabool Cancer Council’s Relay for Life.

Team members, led by captain Belinda Nash, have been busy organising an array of fund-raisers for the Cancer Council in the lead-up to the September relay.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s all worth it in the end. It’s a great sense of achievement,” said Mrs Nash, who formed the team three years ago with her colleagues and husband Troy.

Mr and Mrs Nash were keen to take part in the event after Troy’s battle with testicular cancer.

Having experienced the impact of cancer, the Nash family – including sons Hayden, 11, and Lachlan, 8 – all take part in the race and associated fund-raising activities.

“It’s close to our hearts because we had dealt so much with Peter Mac and the Cancer Council,” Mrs Nash said.

“It means a lot to us, and it means a lot to do such a good thing for the community.

“At the end of the day, anything we can do to raise money for this great cause and try and live in a cancer-free world will make a difference.”

The Foodworks team has already helped raise more than $30,000, and this year it hopes to add $20,000 to its tally.

Other members of the Foodworks team have been diagnosed with cancer this year.

“It’s given us a lot more inspiration, to get out there and push the message,” Mrs Nash said.

The team’s next event will feature the band Funkshun, with tickets available for $15 from Foodworks Bacchus Marsh. The fund-raiser will be held at the Bacchus Marsh Parish Centre on Friday, August 8.

The Cancer Council Relay For Life is held across Australia to raise funds for cancer research and help reduce the impact cancer has on communities.

The Moorabool Relay For Life will be held on Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21, at Maddingley Park Bacchus Marsh.
