An exhibition honouring the role of indigenous Australian servicemen and women in World War I was part of Moorabool’s NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) event, highlighting the contribution of our native citizens.
“It’s about celebrating the sacrifice and courage of all Australians who went to war,” said Great War Centenary Committee member Katrina Bradfield.
The display was compiled by the Great War Centenary Committee, advised by local indigenous groups, Moorabool council and Djerriwarrh Health Services.
On July 4, a flag raising ceremony signalled the start of NAIDOC celebrations in Ballan, which was followed by a morning tea in the council chambers.
Bacchus Marsh public hall held a second flag raising ceremony, followed by a Welcome to Country celebration.
