100 up! Rockbank’s Alan McLean celebrates a century

Rockbank resident Alan McLean celebrated his milestone 100th birthday at the weekend with friends and family.

The retired horse trainer’s love of horses and dedication to trotting set the scene for the celebration at Melton’s Tabcorp Park horse racing venue on Sunday.

Up until 2011 he was the oldest registered trotting trainer in Victoria, but he’s no longer registered. Mr McLean, with solid support from his wife Eunice, spent most of his life breeding and driving trotters.

“We’ve had horses all our lives,” Mrs McLean said.

The couple also shared a love of travel in their youth.

Their favourite place in the world is Barcelona, but there’s still no place like home for the pair who have lived together on their Rockbank property for about 70 years.
