Bacchus Marsh will not play finals in the Ballarat Football League after results failed to fall its way on Saturday.
In a complicated final round of the season, three sides were fighting over the sixth position on the ladder with East Point and Sunbury joining the Cobras in the hunt for a finals berth.
Bacchus Marsh left its fate up to rival teams after going down to North Ballarat City by 53 points.
Bacchus Marsh could manage just one goal in the first half as City looked to find its best form before the finals.
The 16.11 (107)-8.6 (54) loss meant the Cobras were relying on both East Point and Sunbury to lose their matches.
Neither result went their way, with East Point edging out Darley by five points and Sunbury smashing Lake Wendouree by 97.
The results meant the final spot in the top six went to Sunbury by 4 per cent.
The Cobras finished the year in eighth place.
Elsewhere in BFL, Melton went down to Redan by 21 points, 16.14 (110) to 20.11 (131).
For one of the few times this season, the Bloods made a blistering start, booting six goals in the opening quarter to the Lions’ two. The damage could have been worse, as Melton kicked nine points.
That inaccuracy would come back to haunt the Bloods as Redan launched a fightback. The Lions booted 18 goals in the next three quarters to reel in the early deficit before streaking away to the win.
Jarod Bacon had a taste for the goals on Saturday, booting six for Redan.
The BFL finals series starts this week with North Ballarat City taking on Redan, Ballarat meeting Sunbury, and Darley doing battle with Lake Wendouree.
