The Ballan Farmers Market is getting bigger and better, with more folk flocking to the monthly display of wares.
Ballan Farmers Market committee chairwoman Amanda Sfetcopoulos said the July market was a great success thanks to the merger of the farmers’ and makers’ markets.
“Ballan is one of those towns that’s really community focused.
“People are always trying to help each other, and local businesses help other local businesses.”
Ms Sfetcopoulos said the markets were important in bringing the community together and supporting and promoting local produce.
“We think it’s really important to try and help those people who are using local produce and trying to do things as part of a community,”
she said.
Amid the fresh produce, marketgoers can find locally produced eggs, wines and cheeses.
The committee has launched a new initiative in which the market will donate back to the community each month.
The August market, which wrapped up at the weekend, helped support Ballan Hospital with a $200 donation going towards chemotherapy infusion chairs, which will help patients who usually have to travel for treatments.
The committee also donated $100 to a ‘Love Is In the Air’ fund-raiser event on Friday, August 29.
The farmers market, at the Mill Cottage, 96 Inglis Street, Ballan, is held on the second Saturday of the month from 9am-1pm.
