Melton welcomes new citizens

Melton is gearing up for a memorable Australia Day this year, with 400 residents from more than 50 countries set to become Australian citizens at a special ceremony in Cobblebank.

The citizenship ceremony will take place on Monday 26 January at Cobblebank Stadium, where residents from across the community will take the final step in their journey to becoming Australians.

Following the ceremony, the community is invited to enjoy a range of free activities the whole family can enjoy.

Locals, residents, community members and new citizens alike are invited to enjoy a barbecue, face painting, and the chance to meet dingoes and native reptiles.

The ceremony will kick off at 10.30am, running for three hours through to 1.30pm at Cobblebank Stadium.

Melton mayor Lara Carli said the day serves as the perfect opportunity to recognise the diverse community of Melton.

“Australia Day is a day to celebrate and an opportunity to recognise the people who make our country, and our community, such a special place to call home,” she said.

“We are set to welcome more than 5000 new citizens in 2026. Their stories and backgrounds reflect the rich diversity that continues to shape and strengthen the City of Melton.”
