Melton Town Centre streetscape upgrade

Four locations are set to receive streetscape improvements in the Melton Town Centre.

Melton council has released draft plans of the upgrades to the locations on High Street.

The planned upgrades would include the creation of new welcoming spaces near existing food and retail outlets, where residents and visitors can spend time enjoying what the precinct has to offer.

The proposed works would involve the demolition of existing footpaths, followed by the construction of new paving, landscaping and installation of street furniture.

Council said the new streetscape upgrades will enhance the amenity of the High Street retail precinct and encourage greater community use.

The area has recently benefited from other upgrades including a new playground, footpaths upgrades, street furniture, artworks and activities in partnership with the state government.

The council has worked closely with local traders to shape the new designs and is now inviting community members to view the plans and provide input.

Former Melton mayor Steve Abboushi, who finished his term earlier this month, said the streetscape upgrades are about creating vibrant, welcoming spaces where residents and visitors can relax and socialise and support local businesses.

“We’ve worked closely with the traders in High Street to develop the design of these upgrades, and now we want to hear from the wider community,” he said.

“Your feedback will help us deliver a streetscape that reflects local needs and aspirations.”

Feedback is open until 24 November.
