Woodend-Hesket has announced former Sunbury Lions premiership player Ross Sleight as the new coach of the Riddell District Football League club for the next two years.
Sleight, who played with the Essendon Doutta Stars in the Essendon District Football League this season, will be a playing coach.
The Hawks officially announced Sleight’s appointment on Monday night.
Glenn Hopkins stood down as senior coach at the end of the season.
Hawks president Stewart Braddy said the club was enthusiastic with what Sleight had to bring to the club.
“He played in the Sunbury premiership and is a lovely young bloke,” he said.
“He is pretty happy with the list we have and we will look at adding a couple of key position players to the side.
“He will bring enthusiasm to the club.”
Meanwhile, Lancefield is after a new coach for next season after the club and Sean Tobias mutually agreed to part company on Monday night.
Club president Tony McKay said despite weeks of rumours about whether Tobias would coach next season, it wasn’t decided until the Monday meeting.
“There has been a parting of the ways between the club and the coach.
“It was a mutual agreement and we will be advertising for a new senior coach.
“You will not find a better person than Sean, but we have agreed to go in different directions next year.”
