The Camperdown Botanic Gardens and the work of its volunteers will be in the limelight at the Friends of the Melton Botanic Garden’s (FMBG) final meeting of the year.
Hosted on Wednesday, October 8, guest speaker Janet O’Hehir will discuss the historic Camperdown Botanic Gardens and Arboretum and the work of volunteers over the years to support it.
According to FMBG, Ms O’Hehir is a well-respected speaker and advocate for botanic gardens and its history.
FMBG president John Bentley said the Camperdown Botanic Gardens’ friends group has had a number of challenges while performing some great work in restoring and publicising the garden.
“[It’s] a very early [garden] with a Guilfoyle design – and Guilfoyle designed a number of botanic gardens in Victoria back in the 1800s,” Mr Bentley said.
“[Janet] has a wealth of knowledge about not only Camperdown where she lives, but other botanic gardens in Victoria … [you’ll] discover the history of the garden, the background, and especially improvements being made and what the friends do,” he said.
Supper will be provided at the event and attendees are asked to bring their own cup or mug.
There will also be a raffle with $1 tickets available for purchase.
Please contact the organisation to register interest.
The event will run from 7.30pm at the Bridge Road Community Centre, 260-266 Bridge Road, Strathtulloh.
