Western United’s appeal against the cancelling of its licence has been adjourned.
The appeal was set to be held on September 2, but it has been delayed a week until September 9.
Football Australia in a statement said that the appeals and entry control body (A&ECB) met on September 2 as scheduled to determine Western United’s appeal.
“The A&ECB, established under the National Club Licensing Regulations has adjourned its decision until next Tuesday 9 September due to a request for further submissions (on discrete questions) rom the parties involved.
“All parties continue to fully respect the need for a thorough, independent and timely process. We acknowledge this period of uncertainty has been challenging for players, staff and fans.
“As this is an ongoing metter, Football Australia will not be making any further comments until the appeal is determined.”Western United also released a statement.
“Western United Football Club notes that the Football Australia Appeals and Entry Control Board has deferred its appeal decision on the club’s A-Leagues licence,” it said.
“We remain focused on supporting our players, staff and supporters as we pursue a positive resolution.
“We thank our players, staff, members and partners for their patience and unwavering support. Further updates will be provided as they become available.”
APL executive chair Stephen Conroy said they would continued to provide support.
“We’ve been advised by Football Australia that Western United’s appeal against the decision to withdraw their licence has been adjourned until Tuesday 9 September.
“The APL will continue to support everyone involved with the club, and the board will meet as soon as possible to consider the Immediate implications for season 25-26.”
This comes as United’s hierarchy is fighting a wind-up order.
United’s hierarchy are working towards an appeal of the Federal Court’s decision to wind up the club’s ownership group in insolvency, after successfully applying to stay the order.
