The voice of friendship

A social singing group with an emphasis on inclusion and fun, the Melton South Community Singers is keen to welcome new members.

Meeting from 12.15-2pm on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Melton South Community Centre, group members sing anything from the classics, to musicals, to the latest hits.

Community Singers coordinator Sue Anderson said a wide range of people join in on the fun.

“Music … number one, is a universal language, and it’s also very healing. If you’re feeling down and you listen to some music and come along for a sing – guaranteed, it’s going to make your day better,” Ms Anderson said.

She said some members have used singing as part of their therapy, and a lot of new friendships have formed through the group.

“We don’t just get together and sing, we have a coffee, if it’s someone’s birthday we’ll have a cake,” she said.

There is no pressure to join in on the singing, with attendees welcome to watch or join the group for a coffee.
