Picking a premiership favourite in the Essendon District Football League women’s premier division remains a toss of the coin between the top three sides.
Hillside, Oak Park and Aberfeldie all entered the season with strong credentials and after 10 rounds all sit equal on top with an 8-2 record.
Each of the teams has had a win and a loss against each other.
On Saturday, Oak Park got some revenge on Hillside for its round one loss.
The Kangaroos led by seven points at quarter time before increasing the margin to 19 points at the main break.
It was one goal apiece in the third quarter as the Kangaroos kept the Sharks at bay.
The Sharks had their most opportunities in front of goal in the final quarter but weren’t able to convert as they lost, 5.4 (34)-3.7 (25).
It was all single goalkickers for the Sharks.
Mia Spiteri, Hannah Ibrahim and Emily Paterno were named the Sharks best.
The loss sees the Sharks slip to second on the ladder, percentage behind Aberfeldie and ahead of Oak Park.
Hillside still has to face Aberfeldie in the run home, while Oak Park faces neither side.
In the women’s division 1 competition, Burnside Heights had a big win against Coburg Districts.
The Lions stunned the Bears early to lead by seven points at quarter time.
Five second quarter goals then put the Bears on top at half time.
The Lions didn’t give up and reduced the margin to 15 points heading into the final quarter.
For a second straight week, the Bears finished strongly to come away with a 9.8 (52)-3.5 (23) win.
Krissy Trang kicked four goals, while Holly McGregor kicked three goals for the Bears.
Trang was named in the best along with Marissa Bird and Sina Mason.
The Bears remain in fourth spot.
In the men’s division 1 competition, Hillside proved no match for Oak Park.
Coming off a loss, the Kangaroos dominated the first three quarters as they led by 39 points heading into the final break.
Hillside kicked four goals to one in the final quarter to bring the margin back, but it was too great with Oak Park winning, 11.8 (74)-7.12 (54).
Josh Covelli kicked three goals for the Sharks, with Jackson McMenamin, Khalil Kaakour and Noah Asciak named their best.
The Sharks slip to fifth, only percentage ahead of St Albans and Moonee Valley.
In division 2, Burnside Heights lost to the Sunbury Kangaroos, 16.11 (107)-11.11 (77).
