School holiday fun at Melbourne museums

With school holidays arriving, Museums Victoria is putting on a range of events for parents and kids to get curious this spring.

From September 23 to October 6, Melbourne Museum, IMAX Melbourne, and Scienceworks will feature one-of-a-kind exhibitions, hands-on workshops and interactive activities.

The range of family-friendly programs and seasonal highlights explore past, present and ever-evolving worlds.

Dinosaurs will come roaring to life at Melbourne Museum, with dino-mite programs and events set to take over in an all-out celebration of 66-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus Rex Victoria, whose real fossil skeleton will be on full display.

There is also one of the world’s most complete Triceratops fossils available to observe as well.

At the IMAX cinema next door, screenings of documentary T.REX 3D brings the iconic dinosaur to life on the Southern Hemisphere’s largest screen.

Narrated by Sam Neill, the film transports you to Hell Creek, Montana, to work alongside three kids and a group of palaeontologists as they uncover a remarkable discovery on a dinosaur dig.

If dinosaurs aren’t your thing, Road to Zero at Melbourne Museum provides an insight into the future of road safety through innovative projections, interactive touchscreens and virtual reality.

At Scienceworks, a range of activities are on show, including, Air Playground, Glow Show, and FlushBack augmented reality experience.
