More than $2200 worth of new plants have been stolen within hours of them being laid in Maddingley.
Approximately 247 plants were placed in a roundabout on Monday, June 17, at the Werribee Vale Road and Halletts Way intersection.
In a post on its Facebook page on Wednesday morning, Moorabool council said it was “disappointed” to find the plants missing from the roundabout.
Moorabool chief executive Derek Madden said the crime was not taken lightly by council or locals.
“This is costly to ratepayers and very frustrating for us and for the community. We urge anyone who knows anything about this to contact council or the local police.”
Among the shrubbery was a mixture of Casauarina glauca cousin and Acacia cognata limelight, both of which are native to Australia.
The planting is part of the parks improvement program, an initiative council.
Tree planting has also begun in Maddingley as reported by Star Weekly yesterday.
