Zerafa named number one ticket holder

Australian boxer Michael Zerafa has been unveiled as Caroline Springs George Cross’ joint number one ticket holder for 2024.

Zerafa, who will contest the WBA Middleweight World Title against current champion Erislandy Lara on March 31, was a special guest at George Cross’ Victorian Premier League 1 home clash with Brunswick City on Saturday.

Georgies president Mark Sultana was delighted to have the boxer officially link up with the club, before he departs for the US in coming weeks to prepare for his Las Vegas ‘Main Event’ fight, as he chases a world-title.

“It is an honour for our club to have Michael on board as the number one ticket holder for 2024,” he said. “It means a lot to the members, supporters, and players of this famous club.

“Like our club, Michael has a proud history but remains ambitious and committed to the future. And it’s exciting to think that within a month he could hold a world title.

“There are lots of synergies between our club and Michael, and he will serve as an inspiration for our entire club, which now boasts over 600 players.”

Zerafa, whose dad Manny was a George Cross junior, was honoured to officially link up with the famous Victorian club.

“It’s a great honour, as our family has a long connection with this club,” he said. “My dad Manny was a junior and he followed George Cross in the glory days.

“The club helped him settle into Melbourne and Australian life after moving from Malta as a little boy.

“I’ve attended George Cross matches and it is a fantastic, forward-thinking club that remains proud of its Maltese roots. As a Maltese-Australian, I’m proud of this

partnership and it’s great to hear their ambition about wanting to return to the national stage.

“It’s an honour to be presented as the number one ticket holder, and I will aim to represent the club and its people both here and abroad.”
