Learn more about your local CFA

Toolern Vale CFA are inviting the community to come and visit their local fire brigade for their Open Day on Sunday, September 10.

From 10am to noon visitors will have the chance to meet current members, check out the fire trucks and station as well as hear a presentation about being a CFA volunteer – including requirements, training offered and more.

Toolern Vale CFA captain Jared Watson said he has been a part of the Toolern Vale brigade for eight years, and he would encourage anyone who is wanting to learn exciting new skills, connect with new people and play a vital role in your community to consider joining.

“I personally joined the brigade because I was new to the area and wanted to meet people who were in the community,” he said.

“I was also wanting to be able to help others – knowing that such a valuable group of people may one day be there to help myself or those important to me in our time of need.”

Mr Watson said he enjoys getting ongoing training that can improve yourself in everyday life, but having the opportunity to travel to help other communities such as during the recent Gippsland fires is especially rewarding.

“To know that what you are doing is making a difference and being able to do this with other like minded people from all over the country and sometimes the world is an amazing experience,” he said.

“Any member can have the opportunity to do the same throughout their volunteer career.”

Call or email the Toolern Vale CFA for more information.
