To celebrate Eid Al-Adha, Minhaj-ul-Quran hosted an Eid in the Park event in Mount Cottrell on Wednesday, June 28.

Eid Al-Adha is the latter of the two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year, on 10th of Dhul-Hajj – the last Islamic calendar month, and honours the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God’s command.

A massive number of families attended the celebration, with Minhaj-ul-Quran International president Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri delivering the Eid Sermon.

The event also welcomed Melton MP Steve McGhie, Point Cook MP Mathew Hilakari and Thomastown MP Bronwyn Halfpenny as honourable guests.

An event highlight was the traditional breakfast offered after the Eid prayers, cooked by the sisters from Minhaj-ul-Quran Women League, served by Minhaj Youth League Brothers and Sisters.

There was also a range of fun activities including the Eagers kids corner, a bouncy castle, face painting, fairy-floss, popcorn and goody-bags for kids.

Minhaj-ul-Quran Women League Victoria deputy general secretary Rabia Malik said that since Eid Al-Adha is all about sacrifice, devotion, commitment to the faith as well as brotherhood, such gatherings carry important symbolic meaning within themselves.

“Team Minhaj-ul-Quran Victoria, Minhaj-ul-Quran Women League Victoria and Eagers Victoria is

humbled and thankful to be able to arrange these events for the community at such grand scale,” she said.
