Stay informed – flood warning for Werribee River

Vic Emergency is warning Melton and Moorabool residents to stay informed about potential flooding.

A flood watch warning is in place for the Werribee River near Melton and Bacchus Marsh.

Vic Emergency advice as of 2.44pm Wednesday, May 7 was to “stay informed” as minor to moderate flooding may develop from overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

A cold front will move eastwards across Victoria today, bringing areas of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to the northern part of the state.

Widespread rainfall totals of 40 to 60 mm are expected in the flood watch area from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday, with isolated heavier falls of 60 to 80 mm possible with thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to ease from the west during Thursday.

River level rises are likely in catchments within the flood watch area, where minor flooding may develop from overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Moderate flooding is also possible in areas with the heaviest rainfall.

A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of Victoria, including Melton and Moorabool.
