Melton’s Levi Tomeo skipped playgroup for a different morning adventure last week, getting up close and meeting his favourite superheroes at the Eureka Skydeck.
Levi, 3, and mum Rodica Barbu spent the morning with Superman and Wonderwoman and watched on as Batman and Catwoman leapt and abseiled down Melbourne’s tallest tower to help launch the HeartKids first Super Boss Day fundraiser.
The new campaign asks bosses to dress up as superheroes for a day to raise money for children with heart disease.
Kicking off on Thursday, February 15 next year – the birthday of Batman’s alter ego Bruce Wayne – bosses will be encouraged to channel their inner superhero by dressing up for the cause.
Levi was diagnosed at birth with Long QT syndrome, an abnormality of the heart’s electrical system.
He takes medication three times a day and has to have a portable defibrilator nearby all the time.
Levi spent his first three months of life in hospital and had minor surgery.
“It was hard . . . days and nights rolled into one big messy ball of crying and hoping our son wasn’t going to die,” Ms Barbu said.
She said she was grateful for the support of HeartKids and hoped bosses would support the campaign to raise awareness of childhood heart disease.
“It’s little steps like this that have such a big result on the lives of children with heart conditions and their families,” she said.
