Peter’s tuned in from on high to help Moorabool homeless

In the early hours of an otherwise ordinary Tuesday in June, Peter Turner’s life turned around.

The Bacchus Marsh local says he saw a vision of a plan to raise money for a caravan park in Maddingley to house homeless people.

“Jesus woke me up and gave me the whole plan [for a music festival] and people’s phone numbers and addresses,” Mr Turner said.

“Now, I don’t know these people but there have been so many of them coming to help.”

Mr Turner will host the family-friendly music festival early next year and says the only help he needs now is from volunteers to pick up rubbish on the day.

“A lot of people have this stigma homelessness has all to do with drugs and alcohol,” he said.

“Ninety-nine per cent of the time it isn’t – people are losing their lives and homes because of high rent prices.”

The self-employed metal recycler, who has been helping homeless people across the state every Saturday night for the past three years, said he’s delighted to finally be hosting a large-scale event.

The festival will be on Saturday, January 17, at the Maddingley oval, corner of Station and Grant streets, Bacchus Marsh. Tickets cost $5.
