More trees in the ground in Melton

More than 40,000 trees will be planted in Melton as a part of the Trees for a Cooler, Greener West program.

Melton MP Steve McGhie announced that more than 40,000 trees will be planted in Melton as a part of the Trees for a Cooler, Greener West program.

Following Environment Minister Ingrid Stitt’s Friday announcement that the latest round of the grant will plant 131,504 new trees by mid-2024, Mr McGhie revealed on Monday, April 24 the amount and location of trees to be planted in the Melton municipality.

Mr McGhie said that 41,592 will be planted in Melton across Aspera Drive Reserve, CJ Melrose Reserve , Fraser Street Reserve, Navan Park, Melton Botanic Gardens and Sirdar Street Reserve.

“These trees will provide more green space for residents to enjoy, increase connections with nature and improve mental and physical health,” he said.

“New trees throughout Melton will make the streets cooler and more accessible for local communities creating more shade and green spaces within Melton.”
