Australia Cup

The magic of the cup is back with the first round of the Victorian stage of the Australian Cup revealed. With more teams joining the competition, there’s 133 teams in the preliminary round one draw. Teams from state league 3, 4 and 5 are joined in this round by regional sides and some metropolitan teams. Westside Strikers have a bye in the opening round, while Spring Hills face Old Trinity Grammarians and Mitchell Ranges will host Melton Phoenix.

A-League

Western United academy goalkeeper Mayan Mayan has been called up to the South Sudan squad for the upcoming U20 African Cup of Nations in Egypt. Mayen will join the squad in camp ahead of the tournament’s commencement on February 19. Western United academy director Anthony Frost said the call-up to a major youth international tournament was a significant milestone and one that would boost both Mayen and the Academy in the future.

Ballarat CA

Rain ruined Darley’s chances of further locking up a top two spot in the Ballarat Cricket Association on Saturday. Having made 9-310 on day one against Napoleons-Sebastopol, the Lions entered day two in a good spot. But rain on Saturday morning put pay to that, with no play on day two. It was the only match in the division not to get play on Saturday. After 12 rounds, the Lions sit in second spot.

Melton South Royals got a vital win in the race for Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 5 finals. With rain many matches ended in a draw, the Royals snuck home against Jacana. Having restricted the Jaguars to 118, the Royals made 7-128 to claim victory. The win cements the Royals spot in the top four. Melton Centrals and Burnside Springs both had draws due to no play on day two.
