A Public Transport Victoria bus service has been promised to Eynesbury if Labor wins the state election.

Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll and Melton MP Steve McGhie visited the Eynesbury Homestead to announce the service that would connect Eynesbury to Melton on Tuesday, November 8.

The bus service would be the first public transport available to residents of the Eynesbury area, which has seen significant population increase and development over the last decade, largely by property developers Resimax and Hyde Property Group.

The Eynesbury community has been advocating for public transport for some time, last October a petition was sent to Mr Carroll with more than 600 signatures from residents asking for a bus service.

Resimax Chief Executive Steve Hooker thanked the Labor party for the commitment, Steve McGhie for his advocacy, and Melton Council for their planning role.

“I know the community will be absolutely thrilled with the announcement, they’ve been waiting some time for a bus service,” he said.

“The community is growing at a rapid rate as you can probably see, so it’ll mean a lot to a lot of families. We really thank you for the announcement.”

Mr McGhie said that he is “so pleased” that a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will establish a new bus service between Eynesbury and Melton.

“It’ll be great to be able to work with the local community and stakeholders and everyone involved to make sure we deliver a bus service that people will enjoy and utilise. That’s what we want to see,” he said.

Mr Carroll believes only Labor will deliver a better public transport network for Melton.

“We are delivering a modern, accessible, and environmentally sustainable bus network that increases the number of people choosing to take the bus,” he said.
