It’s as easy as a walk in the park this October

Melton residents are being encouraged to walk in the park this October as part of the free 5-kilometre parkrun event.

The parkrun campaign, which started in Australia in 2011, will change its logo to “parkwalk” next month in order to get people walking.

Peppertree parkrun event director and volunteer Adrian Hillyer said the event was for everyone.

“Parkruns are social events where there is no time limit and people of all ages and abilities take part, including people pushing prams or with their dog on a short handheld lead,’’ he said.

“It’s all about getting involved in a way that is fun and comfortable for you.”

The new walking event will also have volunteers as tail walkers, to offer walkers support and encouragement.

The parkwalks will be held in October at Peppertree Park, Grant Street, Bacchus Marsh and Toolern Creek Park, (the Bridge Road Athletics and Hockey Facility) Bridge Road, Melton South, every Saturday, at 8am.

A junior event will be held at Eynesbury Heritage Trail, 479 Eynesbury Road, Eynesbury, every Sunday at 8am.
