Truganina residents can see all the colour of their neighbourhood in two wildlife murals drawn especially for them by a renowned south west Victorian artist, as part of the annual Colour My Neighbourhood event.

An annual event jointly hosted by Stockland, Edmund Rice Services Mt Atkinson [ERSMA] and local volunteers, the Colour My Neighbourhood festival will showcase two artworks at Grizzly Bear Park and Dinosaur Park at Stockland communities in Truganina.

Artist Jimmi Buscombe said his art aims to connect its audience back with the natural world.

“Since I was young, I have been obsessed with Australian birds and wildlife,” he said.

“I was even convinced I would be the David Attenborough of birdlife when I grew up.

“When I was contacted by ERSMA, I wanted my art to be inspired by their work with a local birdwatcher and showcase the beauty of our local bird species.”

Buscombe said he was inspired by the native birdlife of Victoria’s Western Plains , when he created two bespoke pieces of interactive artwork with coloured chalk.

“Through my art I want to remind people of the innate and joyous connection we have to the natural world.”

Spanning nine square metres, the 3D anamorphic artwork took about 30 hours to complete.

“The festival will run at Dinosaur Park and at Grizzly Bear Park until Saturday, October 1.
