Free HPV vaccine for Moorabool youth

Moorabool students aged 12 to 18 who missed all or part of the Gardasil 9 vaccine course in Year 7 will be able to get vaccinated for free as part of Moorabool council’s Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine catch-up program next month.

There will be two vaccination sessions for students at two Bacchus Marsh schools and two sessions at the Darley civic centre for other youth.

HPV is a common virus which is spread through sexual contact and an infection can be serious.

It can cause cancers, including cancer of the cervix, vulva, vagina, penis and anus, as well as a number of head and neck cancers.

The Gardasil 9 vaccine is for males and females, with the best time to be immunised against HPV being before becoming sexually active.

Vaccination sessions will be held at the following locations:

*Bacchus Marsh Secondary College on Thursday, October 6;

*Bacchus Marsh Grammar on Thursday, October 13; and

*Darley Civic Hub Pavilion on Saturday, October 8 from 10am to 2pm and between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday, October 12.
