Men charged over alleged firearms trafficking

A Werribee man is one of two people charged after more than 60 firearms were seized by police as part of an illicit firearms trafficking investigation.

Detectives executed warrants at three properties yesterday in Werribee, Lal Lal, and Altona North.

A number of weapons including three shotguns, three rifles, an air rifle, two inert hand grenades, ammunition and a sword were seized.

The 62-year-old Werribee man is expected to be charged on summons with a number of firearms offences including firearm possession (trafficable quantity.

Police executed a warrant on July 2 at a Clarkefield address and seized 59 firearms.

A 29-year-old Clarkefield man was charged with a number of offences including possession of a traffickable quantity of firearms.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on October 3.
