Children in Bacchus Marsh and surrounds will benefit from a new all-abilities adventure play space, designed to be inclusive for all.
The state government has provided $1.25 million in funding to build a new playground at Racecourse Reserve in Maddingley, as part of the Victorian Budget 2022/23.
The new playground will accommodate all ages and abilities as the first of its kind in the area, including an adventure playground, walking trails and sensory-friendly landscaping.
The project is designed to meet the growing demand for local sport and active recreation infrastructure in Bacchus Marsh, due to a fast growing residential population.
The funding will also go towards landscaping and walking trails, and once complete the new park is expected to attract visitors from across the region.
The playground design will also accommodate inter-generational enjoyment, so that grandparents and grandchildren can play together.
Victorian premier Daniel Andrews said it was important that all children felt included in play spaces.
“Being included is very important, being able to participate no matter your special needs, no matter your disability, no matter the different challenges and the diversity that you represent in our community is really important,” he said.
Moorabool Shire mayor Tom Sullivan said the council was “extremely grateful” to the state government for providing funding for the facility, which would complement other facilities at Racecourse Reserve.
“This will complement and give a holistic benefit, not just for the town but the region itself, that’s a great outcome.”
The project is due to be completed in mid-2023.
