The Moorabool Shire council has reaffirmed its advocacy priorities in the lead up to an important local government conference in Canberra this week.

Council has stated that the Peri Urban Councils Victoria group (PUCV) as well as neighbouring local councils will help Moorabool to have its voice heard at the Australian Local Government Association’s (ALGA) National General Assembly.

While no one from the council will be in attendance, Moorabool mayor Tom Sullivan said he was confident that the PUCV would advocate for the region at the ALGA conference.

“We’ve made the decision not to spend money on attending the event ourselves, but our community can be assured we will be advocating for them regardless,” Cr Sullivan said.

“We have a lot of similar issues to other peri urban councils and our neighbouring councils that will come up at the assembly.”

The mayor said the main issues of concern for council were around telecommunications, transport links and access to local services.

“We also want the NGA to be aware of our strong advocating for AusNet to consider undergrounding the transmission lines through our Shire,” Cr Sullivan said.

According to the council’s advocacy prospectus, other priority projects include the Moorabool Aquatic and Recreation Centre, the Bacchus Marsh Civic Precinct and the use of the council offices in Darley to expand education facilities with a possible state high school, special school or extension of primary school.
