The new Victorian Veteran Family Services (VVFS) program will offer support to the families and carers of veterans during the Royal Commission into defence and veteran suicide, the state government has announced.
The VVFS will provide extended eligibility and referral pathway for families and loved ones of veterans, including those living in Hume and Whittlesea.
Two Veteran Liaison Officers , both veterans themselves, will deliver the service.
Veterans Minister Shaun Leane said the program will ensure veterans and their families will have access to support during a difficult process for many in the community.
“We want the Victorian veteran community to know we have their back. This service will provide new, specialised support to ensure that no one gets left behind,” Mr Leane said.
Those interested can also reach out for extra wellbeing support through a new phone number, 1800 VET FAM, from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
