The Moorabool council will once again commit to a greener shire through funding for more trees.
This year, the council will again spend $100,000 on planting and maintaining more than 18,000 trees across the shire.
From June, the council will focus on tree planting for Brady’s Lane in Greendale, Jonathan Drive in Darley, the replacement of vandalised trees in Bungaree and the continuation of the nature strip tree replacement program.
Council staff take factors into consideration when planting, such as tree species, environmental conditions and climate, soil conditions and the tree appearance.
Mayor Tom Sullivan said Moorabool residents were lucky to be surrounded by nature, including many “fantastic” trees.
“Our trees are one of Moorabool’s greatest assets,” Cr Sullivan said.
“They are loved by everyone in all their different sizes, colours, shapes and varieties.
“We are grateful to the council for their commitment to planting more trees each year and for caring for our existing trees,” he said.
“The trees bring joy to us all.”
