Mother and daughters trio training local gymnasts

A local gymnastics school is training up the next generation of gymnasts and making it a family affair.

BK Gymnastics Bacchus Marsh is run by Bree Mort and her twin 17-year-old daughters Briony and Tahlia are both coaches at the gym.

Ms Mort said her introduction to the sport was when her daughters started training in gymnastics at the age of six.

“It converted into a career when I was asked to run the not-for-profit gymnastics centre my

daughter’s attended in 2016,

“Then in 2020, BK’s Gymnastics took over the club and I became the centre manager,” Ms Mort said.

Ms Mort’s daughters gained their coaching qualifications at the age of 15 and both are now working towards obtaining an advanced teaching qualification.

The girls are both completing their year twelve studies at Bacchus Marsh Grammar and spend six hours a week coaching at the gym.

Ms Mort said she felt lucky to have a rewarding career that she could share with her daughters.

“It’s pretty special to be able to have your children involved in what you do for a living,” Ms Mort said.

“I also love that I essentially become a work mum to all my staff and a mother figure to every single gymnast that comes into the building.”
