Moorabool installs satellite NBN

Moorabool council is installing satellite National Broadband (NBN) in eight community buildings across the shire so residents can contact their loved ones in the event of a disaster.

The Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disaster (STAND) project provides internet at locations that could be used as Emergency Relief Centres (ERCs).

Moorabool has completed six installations at Mt Wallace Hall, Elaine Hall, Korweinguboora Recreation Reserve, Coimadai CFA, Gordon Hall and Dunnstown Hall.

Mt Egerton and Navigators hall sites are due to have satellites installed soon.

In a Facebook post, Moorabool council said this free, open internet is intended for emergencies.

“NBN will increase the bandwidth significantly to allow for multiple connections in the event of an emergency, if townships lose regular telecommunications,” the post read.
