Police arrested a man last Friday evening over an alleged assault on Chapel Street from late October.

The 20 year old male wasn’t at home in Caroline Springs when police arrived with a search warrant last Thursday, however the man later presented himself to the Caroline Springs police station.

It is alleged that in the early hours of Sunday October 31, a physical fight broke out between two men on the road about 2.30am on the corner of Chapel and Malvern Road, with one male pushed to the ground and assaulted.

A 26-year-old Glen Iris man was allegedly treated by passers-by at the time before being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 20-year-old man from Caroline Springs has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and has been bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrate Count on 15 November 2021.

Victoria police have recommenced Operation Safenight as restrictions eased and nightlife returned to the city.

Inspector Andrew Markakis said police continue to patrol entertainment districts across Prahran and St Kilda as part of the operation.

“Make no mistake – we will use every available resource to follow up on thuggish attacks to bring offenders before the courts and hold them to account and help victims find some closure,” Inspector Markakis said.
