The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) is warning Melton and Moorabool residents to keep their gutters clear ahead of wet weather to avoid potential flooding.
In a statement, the VBA said homeowners and renters should regularly clear gutters and downpipes of leaves and other debris.
State Building Surveyor Andrew Cialini said that non-compliant roof plumbing increases the risk of leaves and debris getting stuck in gutters and downpipes, which has the risk of leading to flooding.
“Trapped wet leaves that sit in guttering also have the potential to lead to surface damage and corrosion, with leaks making the guttering ineffective,” Mr Cialini said.
The warning comes as The Bureau of Meteorology have said spring will likely bring above average rainfall.
