“State of the art” stadium complete in Cobblebank

A new indoor stadium in Cobblebank is now complete and basketball games will be contested on the courts for the first time this Saturday.

The $31 million stadium is Melton council’s highest value project to date. Construction began in March 2020.

As a multi-purpose community facility, the stadium has six courts and will cater to basketball, netball, badminton, table tennis, and volleyball, as well as school and community health and wellness programs.

The building is designed to be sustainable and maximises natural light, minimises energy consumption, uses environmentally sustainable materials, and is powered by a 100 per cent renewable energy supply.

Mayor Goran Kesic said it was an exciting milestone to see the stadium complete.

“Cobblebank Indoor Stadium is open! It’s a very exciting moment for our sporting community and for council to see this spectacular facility complete,” Cr Kesic said.

“It’s a fantastic feeling knowing that community groups and sporting clubs are going to bring a hive of activity to this outstanding space.

“Demand for sporting facilities is growing and we’re proud to support our active community in their sporting endeavours.

“This is our highest value project ever and I’m so pleased to celebrate its completion with our community.”

A community open day will be held early next year, giving the wider community an opportunity to take a closer look at the stadium.
