The township of Blackwood in Moorabool is in the running for the best tasting tap water in Australia.

The Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) will host the Ixom 2021 Best Tasting Tap Water in Australia competition this month.

WIOA chief operations officer Craig Mathisen said the competition is a way to recognise and acknowledge the people and organisations who make sure their community is supplied with safe drinking water.

“We want to use the competition to let people know the great work that is going on in local communities around Australia and help shape and secure Australia’s water future,” he said.

Water authorities from various regional and metropolitan areas will participate in state heats with a blind taste test where water samples will be judged on qualities like colour, clarity, odour and mouthfeel.

The “top drop” from each state will be announced next Tuesday, November 16 before the state winners compete for the top prize in Tasmania.

The winner of the competition will go on to represent Australia at the annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition held in West Virginia, USA.

Ixom, who is sponsoring the event, has been supplying water treatment chemicals to water plants in Australia for almost a century.

Managing Director and chief executive David Head said Ixom ensures Australia “continues to have world renowned, high quality water,” and is proud to be sponsoring the event.
