In a video posted on Melton council’s Facebook page today, mayor Kathy Majdlik reflected on her time leading the municipality.

In the video, she said despite the constraints of the pandemic, she is “very proud that my fellow councillors and I were able to continue to advocate for our community”.

In the past 12 months, Melton has seen some significant projects unfold, including securing state government funding for Melton hospital “after years of advocacy supported by our passionate community”.

After a “rigorous” campaign, the council was also successful in stopping the dumping of toxic soil from the West Gate Tunnel project in Ravenhall.

But Cr Majdlik also stated the importance of acknowledging “how difficult this year has been for everyone.”

“It’s been wonderful to see the strength of the local community spirit shine through and I’m grateful for all the residents who have played their part in helping us get through,” she said.

Cr Majdik also thanked her fellow council members, executive staff and her family for their support.

“I look forward to continuing to represent my community and advocate for your needs as a Cambridge ward councillor.

Melton council will meet tomorrow evening to elect the new mayor for the next 12 months.
