Intense storm weather has shaken the Melton and Moorabool municipalities overnight into early this morning, with fallen trees and power outages being reported.

The Department of Transport has urged caution on the roads this morning as high winds continue to hit Victoria.

According to the PowerCor live power outages site, wind has disrupted power services to a number of areas, including Taylors Hill, Burnside, Fraser Rise, Melton South, Eynesbury, and Exford.

Estimated restoration of power across all areas is by 3pm today.

Residents have taken to social media to share information with one another, with reports of broken fences and of trees fallen on several roads across Melton including; Coburns Road, Melton; Bulmans Road, Melton West; and McBurnie Drive, Kurunjang.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for much of Victoria, including Melton and Moorabool.

“An intense low pressure system crossing southern Victoria this morning brings a vigorous northwesterly flow ahead of it, followed by a strong southwesterly change,” the BOM said.

The next update from the BOM will be issued at 11am.
