A Melton councillor wants more support for maternal and child health care in his city.

Cr Steven Abboushi raised a motion during last night’s council meeting, asking council to voice concerns about resources available to support families.

Cr Abboushi’s motion had two parts; “Write to the Minister for Health expressing concerns relating to the shortage of Maternal and Child Health nurse resources to support families; [and] write to the Municipal Association of Victoria to support advocacy to increase unit costs in the State Government Maternal and Child Health funding.”

Cr Abboushi shared the news of the motion on his Facebook page.

One commenter thanked him for his support.

“It’s great to have a councillor who values the work of maternal and child health nurses,” the commenter said.

“I am so pleased that you are advocating for the children in our community.”

The motion was carried unanimously, with officers expected to commence correspondence with the Health Minister and the Municipal Association of Victoria.
