Moorabool Shire has committed to investigate the potential for further residential growth in Bungaree and Wallace.
Council will prepare structure plans to determine the most suitable location of growth and will help set out an appropriate size and layout of the towns.
Any future developments however are dependent on the connection to reticulated water and sewer, council said.
Mayor Tom Sullivan said: “The provision of sewer and water infrastructure is a key consideration for any future growth and development and council is in ongoing conversations with Central Highlands Water and we are working closely together.
“Council is committed to engaging with landowners and key stakeholders as part of the preparation of the structure plans and will develop a comprehensive community engagement plan.”
“It’s important to note that this is a medium to long-term project, as there are a lot of steps to complete in the process.”
