As Victorian students bunker down for the remaining weeks of remote learning, Woodlea is offering a complimentary online tutoring program for primary and secondary school-aged residents.
Funded by Woodlea to support both students and parents, the online ‘At Home Tutoring Support Program’ aims to fill the gap that parents may not necessarily have
the time or skills for.
Woodlea Sales and Marketing Manager Lora Armstrong said the program seeks to provide additional support to students as they navigate the online classroom
environment.
“We understand that these periods of remote learning have not been easy for families, both for parents looking to teach their kids and also for students who are
missing the benefits of face-to-face learning,” Ms Armstrong said.
“Not only do the sessions offer the chance for students to be engaged with the teachers, but it also provides parents working from home with 40 minutes of child-free time to focus on their own tasks at hand.”
The program successfully launched in August, with all spots in the program snapped up within a matter of hours and a waitlist ensuing, with two variations of English and Maths tutoring on offer.
Each session is capped at a maximum of 12 students to ensure adequate one on one time for each student.
Woodlea resident Melissa Borg jumped at the opportunity to boost her daughter Shantae’s confidence with the extra support and enrolled the Grade 4 student in both
subjects.
“At this age, children don’t tend to have experience with laptops and emails and it can be overwhelming to use this type of technology for the first time during remote
learning,” Ms Borg said.
“There is only so much guidance I can offer since I am not a teacher and can only explain the work to a certain point, which is why having someone there to rely on for
guidance is invaluable and a fantastic initiative by the community.”
Due to the success of the program, Woodlea will continue the complimentary tutoring program into term 4 and will adapt as required to cater to demand.
