MacPherson Park in Toolern Vale will get a facelift as part of a state government stimulus package.
A $1.18 million funding boost for the transformation of the park is one of 27 similar projects across the state designed to stimulate the economy as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
The project will include the replacement of the existing soccer pavilion that is no longer fit for purpose.
Once complete, the new pavilion will comprise of four female-friendly changerooms with player amenities, a kitchen and community social space, umpires rooms, first aid and public amenities.
The facility will provide a perfect base for tenant clubs, including Melton Phoenix Football Club, to develop programs, train, host games and events.
Melton MP Steve McGhie said the upgrades would be a boost for local clubs who have had their competition put on hold or cancelled this year.
“This grant will provide state-of-the-art facilities for everyone who wants to play at this local sports facility,” Mr Mcghie said.
“This is a fantastic outcome for the local community.”
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said it was a particularly important upgrade for female members of the affected clubs, who can look forward to much-needed new facilities
“The participation of women and girls in sport is rapidly growing in our community – and this investment will give them the facilities they need to be at their best on the field,” Ms Thomas said
“This exciting upgrade will not only create a better experience for local sports clubs, but will also create jobs and support the local economy.”
The grants are part of the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, which was specifically for shovel ready projects at sporting clubs across the state.
