The growing suburb of Deanside is set to have its own school, with land secured for a primary school last week.
The education department has purchased land for the school on Taylors Road, Deanside.
A government primary school will open in the site in time for the start of the 2022 school year.
Grasslands Primary School (interim name) is planned to cater for 525 students once completed, with construction expected to begin later this year.
Kororoit MP Marlene Kairouz said the announcement was a big win for the region, which has experienced huge growth in recent years.
“I’m excited that the community’s vision for a new primary school in Deanside is turning into a reality and students will get to attend a brand new school with first-rate facilities,” Ms Kairouz said.
The Melton municipality is home to 20,339 primary school children, which is expected to rise to over 31,029 children by 2029.
The school will be part of the new Bowery development from community developer Wel.Co.
Wel.Co managing director Andrew Welsh said it was vital that community services such as schools kept up with the high population growth in the area.
“Grasslands Primary School will be an exciting and significant addition to Bowery and we look forward to seeing it develop into a place that provides opportunity for students to grow and excel,” he said.
“It is critical that infrastructure and amenity continues to be built at pace with the population as more young couples and families decide to call Melbourne’s western growth suburbs home.”
New schools are also set to open in Eynesbury and Rockbank North as part of a $7.2 billion investment into school infrastructure from the state government.
